Summary: The narrator is a 14-year-old boy who tells about a summer when he finally works up the nerve to ask Sheila Mant, a 17-year-old girl, out to a concert(in Dixford) and she agrees to go. Since he doesn't have a car, they go by aluminum canoe. The narrator has brought along his fishing rod and has left the fishing line in the water while he paddles to pick Sheila up. However, when they paddle toward Dixford, Sheila tells him that she hates fishing. When a huge big mouth bass strikes his line, he can't decide whether he wants to catch the bass or ruin Sheila’s opinion of him. Finally, he chooses Sheila and cuts the line. He hardly remembers the rest of the night, but he does remember that Sheila goes home in another boy's Corvette, after telling the narrator that he is “a funny kid.” He never again makes the same kind of mistake--choosing to act like someone else instead of himself and giving up what he likes.
Question:

2. The conflict of this story occurs when __B___. A. the narrator must decide to take the canoe or the Corvette to Dixford. B. hooks the bass and secretly struggles between staying with Sheila or landing the fish. C. gets in an argument with Eric Caswell and wrestles the entire Dartmouth rowing team.
